Need help Honda Accord rims rubbing?

i have a 97 honda accord that i wanted to put some 18'' rims on. I had them on and the back tires were scubbing against some kinda curved bar that attached to the wheel spindle. If i grind the bar just enough for the tires to clear would i be doing any damage to the cars suspension? Tire size is 245/45/18
